Catch a glimpse of the local wildlife on one of these waymarked trails.     In and around Wigtown, Scotland's Book Town As an interlude to browsing the many bookshops in Wigtown, take time to enjoy a peaceful walk while discovering more about the town and its history.     Garnets Walk This route was once a main road into the village, but today provides a quiet corridor for walkers and wildlife affording superb views along the coast and across the sea.     Monreith Estate, White Loch of Myrton There is plenty to see and do on this waterside walk. The small island just of the southeast shore was once an Iron Age crannog. In spring the woodland floor is carpeted with bluebells interspersed with white garlic spikes.     St Ninian's Cave, Isle of Whithorn Journey into the past as you visit the cave where history tells St. Ninian first brought Christianity to Scotland in the mid 5th century, this ancient cave is well worth a visit, but also keep an eye open for the wildlife that is scatted around this peaceful and sparsley populated part of Scotland.     Stairhaven Coastal Walk Take in a breathe of fresh air on this scenic circular route from Stairhaven in the west of the Machars. With points of historic interest, breath taking views and a coastline rich in marine and bird life, it truely is a walk with something for everyone.     Bladnoch River Walk A charming wheelchair freindly walk along the River Bladnoch, watch the trout rising to take flies and salmon jumping on the final leg of their return to their spawning grounds. The path is gently undulatig and runs through an attractive strip of mature mixed woodland between a tidal stretch of the river and Bladnoch Distillery lade.     Cruggleton Castle & Galloway House Gardens, near Garlieston. A fantastic walk through woodland and beside the sea to the ruin of Cruggleton Castle. There is also the opportunity to take a wheelchair friendly walk around the Galloway House Gardens, which hosts an impressive collection of large rhododendrons.
